Family Counselling

Happy FamilyA healthy family is one of your most important assets! Without it, you and your partner and children are not only stressed but also are more vulnerable to mental and physical disease. In a family, each member's feelings and behavior affects all other members. Families constitute networks of relationships and interactions which evolve into patterns of behavior that at times become problematic.

My Family Counselling services for adults and children whether living together or apart gives family members the opportunity to explore sensitive concerns and issues together within the safety of a confidential counselling setting. Children are encouraged to attend the sessions as they can communicate their opinions and feelings and help to find solutions. My approach is solution focused so that family members are helped to understand their concerns and then to develop a plan for resolving them that is practical and realistic. Goals for change are developed and where appropriate, homework assignments are suggested to assist family members to try out new and more effective solutions. Advice, feedback and practical suggestions by the counsellor give family members an objective and professional perspective on their concerns. My approach not only helps to improve communication but also uncovers the root causes of conflicts.

Families can come for counselling for a variety of reasons. Examples include frequent and unproductive arguing, explosive arguments, feeling disconnected and distant, parenting and discipline, life transitions such as the arrival of a baby, children becoming teens, becoming a blended family, a family member feeling anxious or depressed, conflicts with extended family and so on. Family members can seek a consultation whenever they want a new direction for their family and aren't sure how to initiate change.
